Brothers Ridge Cider is the first woman owned hard cidery in Carroll County Maryland! Brothers Ridge was started as a way to combined a passion for winemaking and roots in agriculture and apple growing. It Started with an Apple. How’s that for a coincidence? Since 2008, our esteemed team of Cider Makers have pressed our hard cider on-site. This guarantees top notch quality control. Our Cider Makers continue to fine tune their skillset, most of them boasting fermentation degrees from esteemed programs already. We love our community.
Visit Red Shedman Farm Brewery and Hop Yard to try our wide range of craft beers, and hard ciders. A family-owned brewery founded in 2014, we are located right next to Linganore Winery on more than 200 acres of farmland between Frederick and Baltimore.
Stowe Cider was founded in 2013 with a vision of bringing something different to the cider scene- a version that boasted less than half the sweetness of most commercial cider. Stowe Cider is constantly developing unique recipes that you will not find anywhere else. Ciders range from dry and preservative-free to others containing local fruits, hops, and unique barrel-aged offerings.
Since before, during, and after prohibition, hard cider has been made in our region and throughout much of Appalachia. Many of these ciders were made from heritage apple varieties, wild apples, or a combination of the two. More often than not, these ciders were fermented and aged in used whiskey and bourbon barrels. Much of what we do at Hawk Knob is an homage to the old-time cider crafters and our Appalachian roots. Hawk Knob ciders might be best enjoyed sitting around a bonfire picking a tune, but we hope you’ll take them with you to new territory.
